CPAC Hungary 2023

The Christian Democratic Institute took part in the CPAC Hungary conference held May 4-5 in Budapest. This world-renowned international gathering of conservatives gave us the chance to introduce CDI to the wider world, while also affording us the opportunity to meet many interesting right-wing thinkers and organizations.

This well-attended event was splendidly organized by the Center for Fundamental Rights. We are already looking forward to next year’s event and are hopeful that events such as CPAC will help unite forces on the Right seeking to reverse the hegemony of left-liberal political and cultural dominance in most Western countries.

Some new and old acquaintances stopped by the CDI stand, including Rod Dreher, the well-known Senior Editor of The American Conservative and author of The Benedict Option.

From the official CPAC website: “United We Stand” was the motto of the second annual CPAC Hungary. The world’s preeminent international conservative gathering, the Conservative Political Action Conference returned to Budapest on May 4th and 5th. Once again this year, the organizers invited Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, to deliver the keynote address at CPAC Hungary.

Originating in the 1970s, CPAC became the annual rally of the American Right. The first European iteration of the conference was hosted by the Center for Fundamental Rights in the Hungarian capital last year. The event, which centered around the values of “God, Homeland, Family,” attracted more than 1,500 people, including nearly 200 foreign decision-makers, journalists and influencers. This gathering generated enormous interest and even closer friendships were forged with our allies, and the left-liberal world erupted in hysteria.

With good reason. CPAC, pioneered by the American Conservative Union (ACU), the Center’s American partner, has become a flagship project for conservatives building their international alliance, and this year’s CPAC Hungary focused on the liberals’ nightmare: the international convergence of national forces. Hungary’s Prime Minister outlined the 12 points of the conservative recipe for success at last year’s event, including his admonition to play by our own rules, make friends, and build communities. The Hungarian Right can act as an intellectual and political driving force in this process. CPAC Hungary 2023 provided a unique platform for joining with our allies in North and South America, Europe, Japan, Israel and Australia in proclaiming “United We Stand!”
